Chaplain Henry led in the Invocation; the Legion of Honor presented the Colors; IS Tom led in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Noble Jerry Ragan sang the National Anthem accompanied by the Al Kaly Band.

IS Tom then opened the meeting at 7:40pm.

The minutes from the May 22, 2009 meeting were approved as published on the Al Kaly web site.

The Treasurer’s report was given and accepted.

Correspondence was read by the Recorder. There was a letter from MWB Brian and Lady Jeanie Cotter thanking Al Kaly for their hospitality at the Imperial Session and stating how much they both enjoyed the session. SHC Salt Lake City sent a letter thanking us for our donation of $2249.90 from the Al Kaly bowl-a-thon.

Eight candidate petitions were favorably balloted on. They are: Louis M. Graner, 1st/2nd line signers Ron Bowen/Norm Churchill; Eugene W. Hauck, 1st/2nd line signers Troy Hanson/Ron Bowen; Eugene Dobrzelecki, 1st/2nd line signers Phil Moss/Ralph Hathaway; Joseph Montoya, 1st/2nd line signers Phil Moss/IS Bill Stoner; Robert J. Peloso, 1st/2nd line signers IS Earl Aldrich/IS Bob Burr; Eric D. Hinebaugh, 1st/2nd line signers IS Tom Holmes/IS Bart Guthrie; Scot M. Autry, 1st/2nd line signers C.C. Kelly/Jamie Perry; and Nicholas B. Forgit, 1st/2nd line signers Howard Magan/Vern Wolf.

A short form ceremonial, using the new Imperial Ritual was conducted initiating Paul Nowell (1st line signer Lester Nowell) into Al Kaly Shriners. Performing the ceremony were Nobles Jim Stivers and Ken Henry.

The remainder of the membership report was given. Demits: Kristopher R. Trumble and Tony P. Valdez; Suspensions: Christopher P. Chalfant, James B. Foster, George R. McCleary, Randy L. McElvain, David C. Pierce, Mark Rushing, Ben P. Syler, and Stephan K. Von Kalben. Associate Member Drop: Edward G. Merritt

A Necrology report was given by Chaplain Henry honoring the following nobles: Bobby C. Anthony, IS Myron D. Bodam, Myron T. Darmour, A. David Miller, Victor B. Morris, Donald C. Phillips, David N. Reece, Jesse R. Smith, and Carl F. Tree.

Old Business:

IS Dave Stevens, CSSA President, gave an update on the upcoming CSSA. Over 2200 nobles/ladies have registered; we all must register for the events; and we are all encouraged to attend the events. IS Bart Guthrie, Director General, reported that Flying W tickets sales will be cut off on September 8; we are all requested to wear our lapel pins and registration packets may be picked up at the Cherry Creek Room, Doubletree Hotel.

New Business:

Noble Lester Nowell reminded us of the Mule Train Fish Fry on September 5, 2009. Tickets are on sale from any Mule Train member for $10.00.

Noble Gale Fortney informed us that the State Fair had invited the Mule Train to participate in the Flag Ceremony opening of the State Fair Rodeo on September 1, 2009.

IS Tom recognized a number of nobles for their extraordinary efforts:

  1. Noble Billy Swartz for setting up a share and care donation in Colorado Springs. Nobles donated $1,100.
  2. Noble Ray Clark for his outstanding work as Dust Editor.
  3. Nobles Vern Wolf, Ron Crawford, and Roger Mendenhall for their efforts in building an Al Kaly BBQ grill.
  4. Chief Rabban Steve Jordan for having 55 participants on the upcoming Al Kaly trip.

Chief Rabban Steve Jordan gave an excellent synopsis of the 135th Imperial Session, San Antonio, TX, July 5-9, 2009. A copy of his report is available for review in the Al Kaly Office.

Chief Rabban Steve Jordan read a resolution to change the Al Kaly By Laws. A copy of the resolution was contained in the September 2009 Dust. It will be laid over and voted on at the October 2, 2009 stated meeting.

Treasurer Larry Newman gave a 2009 budget revision presentation. Following the presentation it was moved/seconded to send the revision report to Imperial. Passed.

Treasurer Larry Newman read a resolution to increase Al Kaly dues from $57.00 to $66.00 effective with the 2010 dues. It will be laid over and voted on at the October 2, 2009 stated meeting.

Awards. A Jewel of Distinction, silver and gold stars, and medals were presented. Recipient’s names will appear in the November 2009 Dust. IS Dick Sater was presented a 25,000 point pin. He is the fourth Al Kaly noble to receive this pin.

IS Bill Stoner was presented a Bronze Award, Membership Certificate from Imperial

Noble Larry Newman received his certificate for the $100M Club.

Donkey Days Ribbons from the Cripple Creek parade were presented:

  • Marching – Legion of Honor accepting Noble Dwain Jack
  • Music – Pipes and Drums Band accepting Noble John Larson
  • Color Guard – Legion of Honor accepting Noble Dwain Jack

Reports form Clubs, Units, and Committees:

IS Bob Burr presented a check to the Children’s Transportation Fund for $500 from the National Corvette Meeting. The donation was actually $432; but, IS Bob and IS Bill Stoner made up the difference to make it an even $500.

Noble Dwain Jack presented a check to the Children’s Transportation Fund for $2231.48 from the estate of Conrad B. Theisman. Mr. Theisman was always grateful for treatment his daughter received from Shriners Hospital for Children.

Noble Garnic Kidwell presented $31.75 for the Children’s Transportation Fund from the annual picnic’s “Wet the Divan”.

IS Earl Aldrich explained the Shriners purpose while in Alamosa and received a $200 donation for the Children’s Transportation Fund.

IS Earl then gave a short memorial on Noble Vic Morris who recently passed away. Noble Vic was IS Earl’s first line signer into Masonry.

IS Dick Sater reminded us of the Consistory meeting September 2, 2009. It is Hawaii night.

Chief Rabban Steve Jordan reminded us of the November 21-22, 2009 Basketball Tournament and encouraged us all to support the tournament by purchasing tickets and attending. He also solicited ads for the program.

Noble Jim Gibson solicited interested nobles to participate in the Provost Guard shooting competition to be held during the upcoming CSSA.

Noble Russ Silvey, El Jebel Shriners, requested Al Kaly assistance in working the State Fair Child ID Program. IS Bill Stoner emphasized the importance of this program.

1CM Brian Bate had gate passes for the September 1 State Fair.

Noble Ray Clark encouraged us to attend the Public Relations Unit meeting, 12:00pm, August 31, 2009 the Village Inn, Academy/Palmer Park, Colorado Springs.

With no further business the meeting was closed/adjourned at 9:25pm.
